If you have not yet, read through your Yoga Anatomy textbook to the end.

The Great Anatomy Study!

• Go through each chapter of the “Inside the Asanas” section.

• Select your three most intriguing postures you would like to explore.

• For each posture you will study how to work through yogic sequencing from an anatomical perspective.

• Design a warm-up and cool down for each posture, it can be 1 pose or a few. (warm up only if necessary note why yes warmup or why not)

• Select one posture to prepare for each pose and one posture to recover or cool down each pose. (one before, one after)

• Identify the key muscle groups and joints used in the posture including their movement forms. ie. isometric contraction in arms, flexion of wrists and extension of fingers and palms, flexion in feet and extension of the knees, contraction of quadriceps, abdominals and pectorals, neck is neutral in line with the spine- Plank- ( you do not have to be an expert or get every single term correct, go with the terms which you have absorbed so far)

• Describe briefly how you would teach your selected postures in a class, ie. what type of class, hold or flow, for what purpose (hip opening, spine strengthening, core activating, etc.)
